Yes I know Burberry are a great British heritage type designer, and yes I enjoy their trench coats as much as the next person. Their last seasons collection completely dominated the catwalks, and later influenced the high streets, I mean who doesn't own a shealing coat? BUT, and this is a big but, aren't we all just bored of their campaigns. Time and time again it is that stilted half in motion poses, always outdoors and with a blonde girl and a dark haired boy. Obviously there are some differences, Emma Watson was replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, whom has now been replaced by new British it girl Cara Delevingne. But lets be honest, its still just the same, same lighting, same models, same outdoors, same poses, just plain and simple, same concept. So I shall put my plea out there, please Burberry do something a different! I want to be inspired!

Boring Burberry?

That's a fair enough comment. The latest campaign is particularly boring and I find even a little awkward. Usually the photos at least have a decent composition with the model's poses but these just hurt my eyes! x

Ha thank you. most other feedback I've got when asking other people their opinions is that they love it, I though I was isolated in my thinking.

My issue is different: I find it ridiculous that they're using models who look like teenagers. That's not their market! Those kids can't afford Burberry.
ReplyDeleteThis is very true, they're definitely not appealing to their market. Never really thought about that before, but yer my mum wouldn't want to take style advice from the likes of Emma Watson.
ReplyDeletei hadn't thought about it, but you're right. their campaigns are all the SAME with interchangeable models...
ReplyDeleteHaving worked for various large companies in my time, I think this might be some upper ups idea of BRAND IMAGE. It's consistent. It's pretty. I liked Emma Watson actually, though she had the same bland expression as all the other models. So I don't know, though I see your point. It would be nice if they mixed it up a little.

Yep, and I don't think it's just Burberry either. I find a lot of the big brands just trot out the same images again and again with different models/clothes. In fact, I generally find advertisements pretty tedious for that reason....
ReplyDeleteAlso, that girl is really boring looking. I'm flummoxed at this modern idea of "it girls," who seem to be personality-less clones. Just a thought... ; )
Agreed. This was a really boring ad campaign. I agree with other readers that most big brands have ridiculously boring ads.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Laura about most kids not being able to afford Burberry. The rich kids can of course. Maybe that's who they are targeting and just want the poor kids to aspire as per usual.
ReplyDeleteShort and sweet post.

I generally like the Burberry ads, this one I admit is not my favourite, partly due to the fact I hated this seasons accessories collection!
