Is there this much need for all this nudity? Apparently so seeing as this is i-D's exhibitionists issue. Anja Rubik, Lady Gaga, Karlie Kloss, Jordan Dunn, Tati Cotliar, Meghan Collison, and my new favourite model of the moment Shu Penn all grace the four different covers completely naked. Personally I think, cover it up a bit more. I mean if Lady Gaga is not the most naked person on the cover, then you know you must have a pretty naked cover. I like them all they're clever and edgy, but I mean aren't we all over a bit of nudity? When did fashion become edgy porn? I read magazines for the clothes, and if you're not wearing any, well there's not much that I can do, other than pass it on to my male friends and hope they get more enjoyment out of it than I did.

Being newly appointed to the most coveted job in fashion basically means one thing, the entire world is watching, and many people will be hoping you fail in order to take your place. So what does Emmanuelle do? She gets in the world's biggest super model of course! This cover is great in itself though, Gisele or not, because its so clean and fresh. Its representative of a new start and a new direction for Vogue.

Whilst 70s has seemingly been reigning supreme on the catwalk, Givenchy fast forward 10 years ahead, and opt for an 80s feel to their collection. The shoulder pads, blazers and bomber jackets make for a very 80s collection anyway, but Givenchy really channel the look with bold and almost garish prints. I love the panther feel throughout the entire collection, very sleek and sexy. But what really makes this collection is the little details, the pointed collars and the patent lapels. It highlights how well made and designed it is from head to toe. So lets channel the inner Sue Ellen Ewing in us, and 80s it up.

Big love for the MIDI skirt

So the maxi skirt/dress has been around for a while, and only the bravest of us fashionistas have really gone for that look 100%. Its just impractical during the summer months to be restricting your legs like that, I mean how's a girl meant to tan?! But the MIDI skirt, well that I can handle. I am actually in love the midi skirt just because it can be worn with so many different styles, its for everyone and anyone. Its just perfect for the spring/summer months to keep you warm but not hot. And at least my ankles can get tanned!

Anja Rubik Vogue Australia April 2011

Why oh why Vogue Australia can you get it oh so right and yet oh so wrong? So this month's cover was a huge success, the colourful yet simple photo was a genuine hit with the fashion industry and all eyes turned to Vogue Australia thinking that they had real fashion potential. They then roped in big model Anja Rubik to be on this cover, and the fashion industry was a buzz and could not wait to see what the seemingly creative minds of Vogue Australia could do. But oh what a disappointment. Standard awkward high fashion pose, in a jumpsuit that is not being shown off to the best of its ability, and at best looks a little tacky. Thus the fashion world was not impressed and the hype around Vogue Australia deflated.

Yet, when we look closer on inspection and see the actual spread with Anja Rubik, we see that the look that Vogue Australia has gone for is captured to perfection. 70s Charlie's Angel style glamour with beautiful light blush colours. But why oh why Vogue Australia chose that bog standard, unimaginative, unfashionable photo to be the cover photo I shall never know. Even the most primitive fashion magazines, that claim to be fashion magazines, but are really for the majority of the unfashionable population have more forward thinking covers than this, and this is Vogue for Christ sake! An institution that lives and breathes fashion, and would surely know whats inspiring and great, and whats mediocre/borderline dire. But it just shows, that like a book, we can't judge a magazine by its cover.

Gucci A/W 2011 Milan Fashion Week

70s has been the ever running theme for S/S 2011 with floaty dresses, and smocks making their way into our wardrobes. But it seems that the 70s has not left us yet by looking at Gucci's A/W 2011 collection. However, this 70s is much less hippy, and far more glamorous. Although this collection is screaming with inspiration from the past it is still very clever, innovative and forward thinking. The different materials such as suede, chiffon, leather, fur, add a lot of different dimensions, yet the jeweled colours and 70s style help to keep the collection coherent. I love this collection, and now am begging for the cold weather to come around again so I can put on a glamorous 70s dress and pretend like I'm from Saturday Night Fever and listen to the Bee Gees.

Fashion as Art - LFW

Yes, I am raving about London, again, but I promise this shall be my last time. So I have to mention one of the coolest London designers when talking about LFW and that is Christopher Kane. He does what fashion is about, create works of art. So often these days fashion has become about making women look good, its about style and fit, which is great because there is a need for that. But fashion is also about creating shapes and being innovative and this is where London steps up to the plate. Obviously we have our classic designers like Burberry and Aquascutum whom always deliver great tailored, stylish clothes. But we also have our innovative cool designers who create works of art. The highlight for this for me at LFW was Christopher Kane.
Christopher Kane's collection was a great mixture of structured a-lined shapes, with hard lines made up of heavy colours and materials, combined with waterfall like patterns made up of light colours and material. The juxtaposition was so good yet so subtle making it all the better. Some of his dresses truly could have hung in the Tate Modern. His collection just backed my belief that fashion is art.

London on a world showcase

What I absolutely love about London Fashion Week is having London style put on a pedestal and showcased to the world. London designers whom may not always get as much of a look in in the fashion industry get to put together all their clothes and showcase them to the onlooking fashion world.

A highlight of my fashion week so far is John Rocha, British born designer whose clothes are more commonly known for his collection for Debenhams. His actual fashion reputation is not up to the standard of top London fashion designers and has always been cast in the background. However, everyone was raving about his collection on twitter, so I sought to check it out, and my God is it good. Its made up of black, texture, and shape. It was a very innovative collection, yet still stylish, which you do not see a lot of these days, as general good taste and style seem to conquer innovation a lot of the time.

This is why I love London Fashion Week though, as designers such as John Rocha get a chance to show the world their true potential and thus I hope this collection has shown the world that we do have more than our bog standard designers such as Burberry and Vivienne Westwood.

LFW!

Sorry that I have been on hiatus for a while but I've been a busy girl leading a busy busy life -(shopping and Uni work mainly). But I have returned for obviously the biggest date in any London girl's calender, L.F.W.
So far we have seen Paul Costelloe, Maria Grachvogel, Caroline Charles, Corrie Nielson, Jean-Pierre Braganza, Sass and Bide, and PPQ.

I must say I am ecstatic to see Sass and Bide moving up the scale in LFW. I am a huge fan of theirs and have been for several years. The ozzy based designers Sarah-Jane Clark and Heidi Middleton showed us a different take to their usual structured monochrome outfits. It was very much inspired by their countries routes with aboriginal like prints, colours and shapes. This collection definitely wowed me, not only am I channeling an aboriginal look myself this summer, but it was also such a new inventive take on their style for them, which shows fashion growth. It still kept their overall warrior feel that they have to all their outfits, only a strong independent woman could wear them, which is what I have always loved about their clothes.

British based designer PPQ also have been a highlight for me so far. I loved the colour pallete of greys, navy and black, a combination that looks so chic together. I was also inspired by the mini dresses, I loved the long sleeves and tight dresses, very powerful, I will definitely be wearing such dresses on nights out. I also loved the detailing to the dresses, whether it be the laces frills, or big embellishments. Also the hats and pigtails - amazing, such a contrast of sweet innocence with the strong, powerful, sexy dresses. Overall, PPQ did the British proud.

Rosie Huntington-Whitley graces the cover of U.K. vogue this month, and I must say I'm glad to see a model on the front cover rather than a celebrity. Even if she is a celebrity model, atleast shes doing her job, rather than just promoting herself like many of the celebrities we see on the covers of the top fashion magazines. I also love the red hot cover, very Rosie, very sexy.

So it just wouldn't be spring without some sort of nautical theme appearing on our fashion spreads and here it is. Shot by Camilla Akrans and modelled by Theres Alexandersson Vogue Nippon have provided us with our yearly dose of nautical. Much like Spring cleaning, April showers and Easter, nautical is inevitable in spring time. But really who actually wears nautical? Its a great simple trend to sometimes adhere to in small fashions, such as accessories, or a blue and white stripped top. But no one really ever goes all out sailor nautical now do they?

This video is so pretty and fun. I love the big chunky colourful jewellery. I also love the noises you hear, like the pouring of water, and the chinking of bracelets. Its a very sweet video which I think really captures what Alice and Olivia are about, delicate yet fun. I love how technology is helping fashion to advance, fashion videos are becoming so much more popular these days and I think capture a brand so much better than a photograph.

Dolce and Gabbana S/S 2011 campaign

Doesn't this look like it should be from Mamma Mia or something? Or how Mamma Mia should have been with glamorous models parading round wearing Dolce and Gabbana. Me and my friend joke that Dolce and Gabbana is the designer for crazy Spanish or Italian women who can wear excessive amounts of leopard print and tight fitting dresses, and still look super stylish. This campaign has sort of summed up my view on Dolce and Gabbana, crazy Mediterranean women being super over the top and eccentric, yet still managing to keep a level of style. Its as if Dolce and Gabbana read my mind.

I just love her style, shes not like the normal models where they follow an obvious trend, do a bit of layering, look a bit vintage/grunge/dishevelled. (Do not get me wrong, I LOVE THAT LOOK!). But what I love more is people who stand out and she stands out. Her style is so chic, and well put together. I love her use of waisted belts and accessories. You can really tell that she lives and breathes clothes and fashion which is amazing. I mean fancy wearing a sheer dress in the middle of winter? Only a true fashionista would do such a thing.

So its the end of yet another Paris Haute Couture fashion week. Sad times. But I've deciphered one thing from it all and that is PRETTY PRETTY PRETTY. Yes this S/S 11 couture wear was made for a Barbie princess.

Chanel used a lot of light soft pinks, with silver embellishments, soft light materials and general pretty frilliness.

Elie Saab again had the blush tones and the prettiness, but was less youthful, and had a more glamorous take on the prettiness, with some of the dresses even being in dramatic sexy colours like red and black, yet the pretty undertones of the collection still prevailed.

Valentino was the most shocking, taking away from his signature sexiness, and favourite colour red, he opted for a more subtle pretty collection. This again fits in with the pretty theme with the blush tones, frills and embellishments. Valentino's take on this, however, is more elegant.

So after this fashion week, we all legitimately have an excuse to dress up as pretty as we like. So lets whack out the pink and frills.

Paris Hilton - Vogue Turkey Feb 2011 cover

I love this cover just purely because its so cheeky. Its the stereotypical cheeky Paris, but with a fashion edge. Its not the normal Paris Hilton we are used to seeing. There's no pink or chihuahua in sight, thank the Lord. Photographed by Terry Richardson, who's shoots are always notoriously a bit cheeky. I love the glasses, and the red and black. Its just a more grown up, fashion forward Paris, plus did I mention it was so cute and cheeky?

Kate Moss Vogue Eyewear S/S 2011

So Kate is the new face for Vogue eyewear replacing Gisele and she looks great. Obviously the look that they usually go for is a glamazon woman, and Gisele was perfect for that, but it just shows how adaptable Kate is. She can go from being grungey and edgy, to pretty and delicate, and to this glamorous and sexy. Its a great shoot with lots of colour, and just shows to all those haters that think Kate is passed it, thats shes still got it.

Chanel Haute Couture or just plain casual?

Gone are the jacket and skirt sets, and in comes the t-shirt and trousers with a flat shoe? Apparently so. According to Karl Largerfeld "Couture is not for old ladies any more." So he has made this collection for the youth, a more laid back casual approach to couture. I personally love it, I think its so clever how he has managed to take away the grandeur of big dresses and bold statements, yet still make something as simple as a t-shirt look so beautiful and couture still. I love the pink prettiness of the entire collection, and it seems as though his Harper's Bazaar shoot with Gisele Bundchen was a preview of what this collection was going to be. Though Karl may have pissed of the grannies, I still think this collection is the best couture we've seen so far at Paris fashion week, and one of the best Chanel have done in a long time.

Givenchy Haute Couture S/S 2011

I love that Givenchy have used the same set up and layout again for their haute couture collection. It worked so well last time and looked so powerful and regal, and it does yet again. This time it has a softer edge to it with bows, sheer material, and feathers which correlates with the prettiness that we're seeing at a lot of the haute couture shows. I also like the swan like element to all the dresses, making it very elegant and demure. I think the pictures say it all really, and it is safe to say that yet again Givenchy have hit another home run with their haute couture collection.
